Sound Turkiye ties a boon for Global South
President Xi Jinping has called for China and Turkiye to remain committed to the trend of the times to promote peace, development, cooperation and win-win results, and support each other on their respective paths toward national prosperity, in order to elevate their strategic cooperative relationship to new heights.
Xi made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Tianjin.
He said that both China and Turkiye are major emerging countries and significant countries of the Global South, sharing a spirit of independence. The sustained high-level development of China-Turkiye relations aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations and the broader interests of the Global South, he said.
Xi called on both nations to join hands to contribute to the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.
Noting that next year marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Turkiye, he underlined the need for the two countries to solidify their political mutual trust, support each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns, and strengthen counterterrorism and security cooperation.
Xi said that both countries should deepen practical cooperation, strive to enhance synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Turkiye's Middle Corridor Initiative, advance the development of the southern corridor of the China-Europe Railway Express, and create new highlights in areas such as new energy, 5G technology and biomedicine.
Erdogan expressed Turkiye's high regard for developing relations with China, saying that his country firmly adheres to the one-China policy.
He praised China's fair stance on the Middle East issue and expressed Turkiye's readiness to work with China to uphold international fairness and justice.
