Woman punished for assaulting trash-sorting volunteer

A woman has been given a three-day administrative detention for hurting a trash-sorting volunteer in Shanghai, local police said on Monday.
The Hongkou district police bureau said on its Sina Weibo account that the 33-year-old woman, surnamed Ye, assaulted volunteer Zhao who stopped her from dumping trash that was not properly sorted on July 4.
The 55-year-old volunteer fainted during the conflict and was rushed to hospital where she was warded for two days. She sustained superficial injuries on her neck and head during the incident. Zhao was back at her post on July 7, according to the Shanghai Morning Post.
A retired cleaner, Zhao served at a residential community in Hongkou district, showing people how to sort their trash.
Shanghai implemented its domestic waste management regulations on July 1.
