Guangdong Machinery Technician College has said an investigation is underway into the reported denial of enrollment to a student with autism.

According to a statement released by the college on Tuesday, the college has attached great importance to the matter and immediately established a task force to conduct a thorough investigation. It said it will address the matter appropriately in accordance with the principles of caring for students, upholding the college's responsibility toward them and ensuring educational equality.

The Guangdong Disabled Persons' Federation is to consult with the student's parents and arrange for a professional assessment to be conducted by a specialized institution. If the assessment confirms that the student possesses the necessary academic and daily living capabilities required for the relevant program at the college, the college will promptly complete the enrollment procedures to fully safeguard the student's right to education.

The college added that it has always placed high importance on vocational education for persons with disabilities.

Since 2018, the college has collaborated with the Guangdong Disabled Persons' Federation to cultivate skilled talents, providing specialized training for more than 100 students with disabilities and supporting their path to employment.
